Frequently Asked Questions

We are no longer accepting registrations, but please feel free to leave us your contact information if you'd like to get notified the next time we have an event like this.

Q: What are the goals of Queer Camp outLoud?

A: outLoud Radio Queer Camp has three main goals: raise money for our youth radio programs; build community; produce some audio stories!

Q: How much can I learn in one weekend starting from zero?

A: Over the weekend you will learn and practice using field recording equipment, interviewing, audio editing and story design. No previous experience necessary.

Q: I already have media production skills. Is this camp for me?

A: Sure! You can practice your interviewing, editing and storytelling. AND, you get to spend the weekend developing these skills in queer community!

Q:  If my friends sign up too, can we stick together at Camp?

A: We will be doing projects in groups of 2-4. Groups will either be doing a vox pop (“person on the street”) piece or interviewing each other. If you and 1-3 friends want to make a vox pop, or if one of you wants to interview the other(s), you’ve got yourself a group and are welcome to stay together during camp!

Q:  I have an important and unavoidable commitment during Camp - is it okay to miss part of a day?

A: Our time is short! We ask you to be there for the entire camp. Please talk to us if you have any concerns

Q:  Do you offer financial aid for Queer Camp outLoud participants?

A: Queer Radio Camp is a fundraiser for outLoud Radio youth programs. Though we do not have financial aid available, we will give you an online fundraising page where you can get your friends to sponsor you, and we encourage you to do this!

Q:  How do I confirm my spot at Queer Camp outLoud?

A:

  1. Fill out an application and send it in.
  2. We will be in touch with you to set up your personal fundraising page.
  3. Start your fundraising page off with a donation of at least $75.

Q: What is the refund/cancellation policy?

Your starter donation of $75, which covers basic camp expenses, can be refunded in full through March 28. Fifty percent can be refunded through April 4. Any sponsorships from your friends that you get through online fundraising go directly to outLoud programs and are non-refundable. Your spot at Camp outLoud is not transferrable to anyone else.

Q:  Do I need to pack a lunch?

A: Meals and snacks during camp hours will be catered by Apothocurious: a light meal Friday evening, lunch on Saturday and Sunday, and snacks. We will take your dietary restrictions into account as much as possible.

Q:  Will there be a waiting list if the program fills up?

A:  Yes!

Q:  Is the program site accessible to people with mobility issues?

Yes. Please let us know about any mobility issues you have ahead of time so we can make the camp experience as good as possible for you.

Q:  What about parking and transportation?

The UC Berkeley campus is very accessible by public transit, and we encourage you to take BART or bus rather than drive. Contact us if you have futher questions.
